Whispers From My Muse: A Family Matter
current mood: thoughtful
My half of the family was being dead quiet also, we hadn't gotten so much as an email from any of them and I knew damn well we'd left them with more questions than they'd had when we'd knocked on the door that day.
Then, about three weeks later, a package arrived.
Kalindra came tearing into my office scattering papers and people behind her to find me sitting in my chair, staring out the window but not seeing what what there. Our bond had told her how upset I was, but it wasn't until she took the letter I was still holding and read it that she understood why. Stepping over to stand next to me, she put her arm around my shoulder and simply held me until I was aware of my surroundings again.
"I'm sorry, sometimes the family is not worthy of the name, it is never easy to discover this," she told me quietly as she stared out the window with me.

A disconnected corner of my mind took interesting note of the fact that my Uncle hadn't sent his bracelet back.
"No," I said with a tired sigh, "sometimes they aren't." Pulling Kalindra close I leaned my head against her belly and listened for my daughters heartbeat, even though it was way too soon to actually hear it. "Well little one, I guess you'll only have one grandmother."
It was starting to rain outside, and together, Kalindra and I just held each other and watched ...

Looks like I have some serious catchup to do!
