Whispers From My Muse: A Family Matter

* Epilog *

Kalindra and I stuck pretty close to Earth for the next month.  There was more than enough to keep us busy as it became better known that she was the Velan Ambasador, especially once the interlink between the Internet and the Velan Central Library got more active.  I also knew my own Government well enough to not trust them further than I could drop kick the White House, but surprisingly they didn't try anything overt against the family.

My half of the family was being dead quiet also, we hadn't gotten so much as an email from any of them and I knew damn well we'd left them with more questions than they'd had when we'd knocked on the door that day.

Then, about three weeks later, a package arrived.

Kalindra came tearing into my office scattering papers and people behind her to find me sitting in my chair, staring out the window but not seeing what what there.  Our bond had told her how upset I was, but it wasn't until she took the letter I was still holding and read it that she understood why.  Stepping over to stand next to me, she put her arm around my shoulder and simply held me until I was aware of my surroundings again.

"I'm sorry, sometimes the family is not worthy of the name, it is never easy to discover this," she told me quietly as she stared out the window with me.

In the box behind me was one of the security bracelets I'd given to everyone in the family.  It was their defense against stupidity and their escape from it when necessary.  The one in the box was my mothers, the letter was a rambling tirade against pretty much everything associated with me and a notification that on the advice of my Uncle, she was leaving everything she had to my brother and essentually disowning me.  A disconnected corner of my mind took interesting note of the fact that my Uncle hadn't sent his bracelet back.

"No," I said with a tired sigh, "sometimes they aren't."  Pulling Kalindra close I leaned my head against her belly and listened for my daughters heartbeat, even though it was way too soon to actually hear it.  "Well little one, I guess you'll only have one grandmother."

It was starting to rain outside, and together, Kalindra and I just held each other and watched ...

The middle of the story is still wildly in flux in my head and I'm not sure when more scenes from it will show up. Just getting this part of the story out has been a chore, especially given the bits of my real life that are present.

I have to admit to a severe case of interest in reading this story. If you manage to conquer the flux and write it :)

Your muse is either indecisive or a tease. Do you know which? :)

You're trying to confuse me but I'm patient enough to wait for the beginning and middle. :)

Family Nas-Kan

You've seen the beginning already in an earlier scene. The middle is where the Human and Velan halves of the family get introduced and the third chapter is where Kal and I deal with the group that camps on the lawn while the introductions are being made.
